In motion

Move from side to side and the hair becomes the most active part of the portrait. Lines painted on separate plexiglass planes shift across the face, changing depth and giving the subject a different presence from each angle.

About This Artwork

I am the Last Samurai is a large 2024 portrait built around age, character and the movement of hair across separate plexiglass layers. The face remains recognisable, but the vertical marks never sit exactly the same from one position to the next. As the viewer moves, the hair and facial lines realign, giving the portrait changing depth and presence. The work brings Fabian PhiL’s kinetic art language into a quieter, more reflective study of identity.
